4 - 11 pm, 538 Pacific

Complete information about a Haunted House in Algiers (compiled from several emails):

Though life is far from normal for us, it's starting to resemble it. With schools opening back up there are a lot of kids in the area again. It's a welcome sight. With Halloween coming up, we wanted to provide them a traditional Halloween. My girlfriend and I have been working very hard to get our house ready for the holiday and are preparing a mini-production of sorts for Halloween day itself.

Most of the behind-the-scenes stuff is done and we're getting ready to start decorating tonight or this weekend. We've driven around the area and seen a fair amount of other Halloween decorations up and some other people obviously thinking about the holiday.

Anyway, the purpose of this letter is to let you know that 538 Pacific will be open on Halloween day between 4-11 (or whenever it dies down). We will be putting on a miniature Haunted House and I'd like to know if other homes will be doing anything similar. I think it's important to give kids a traditional holiday to speed the return to normalcy and I hope we can be a part of it. We're welcoming trick or treaters of all ages, with or without costumes, we just want to people to be there to enjoy our work.

As far as how scary it is, it'll be varied. Typically we tone things down a great deal for young children. We're doing an Alice in Wonderland theme so it can be varied greatly depending oin the age group. Young kids can expect spookinees and some candy, older kids and adults can expect a really good scare. We're not doing too much with blood and gore though there might be some depending on what others bring to it. We will try to keep that to a minimum though, especially for the younger crowd. It's all human controlled.

The Algiers Historical Society has just printed and mailed out its
September, 2005, issue of its 20-page quarterly newsletter, the
"Algerine."

We are hoping to hold our Nov.12th meeting at the Museum behind the
Algiers Courthouse at 10.30am. Betsy Swanson will be giving a
presentation/slideshow on "Historic Jefferson Parish," which will
heavily feature the West Bank. Non-members welcome. Our new website is still being worked on but details can be found on
www.houseoftherisingsunbnb.com, although there may be some technical difficulties there. The new site should be completed soon and will be found on www.algierspoint.org.

For more information on the Society, email Kevin Herridge, President, at cockney@bellsouth.net.

Let the Rebirth of Algiers begin...but don't let us forget our past!
