Getting into Algiers

From the NOPD (and others), I gather one cannot come into Orleans Parish from the East side. I believe you'll need to approach Algiers from the West Bank Expressway.

The Luling Bridge, and the Huey P are both open, I understand. So is the Causeway.

If anybody has specifics to offer, feel free...

bits of info for the journey home

The causeway will open on Monday to civilian traffic according to NOLA.com

my grandparents returned to Marerro via I-55 and the Hale Boggs / Luling Bridge (I-310) even though the LSP re-entry map shows them closed.

The Feds are trying to get Nagin to back off on the Orleans re-entry plan, but the Algiers part appears unchanged, but they may change their mind about the parts of the eastbanks they talked about opening up.

I read somewhere that the Interstate (Ponchartrain Exp) is clear of water, but still full of sludge. No word on re-opeinig the expressway thru orleans or the CCC.

I saw on wwwtv.com's website (Jill Hezeau page) that the Huey P is open.

I own a condo in Algiers but do not live there. I will be coming from New Mexico as soon as they let us back in to assess damage and make repairs. What type of identification can I bring to be allowed in?

Entering Algiers

My mother, who is recovering from pacemaker surgery, and sister live in Park Timbers, and are planning on returning home on Monday. I wanted to accompany them to New Orleans to help with the clean up, but am presently living in Maryland, and therefore have a Maryland drivers license. Does anybody know if and how I would be able to get into Algiers with my sister and mother?

Coming home from Pensacola

What would be the best way to get home from Florida? We were thinking maybe to Baton Rouge and then down, but we're not sure what roads are open. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What to do with my fridge, the truth?

Ok, I have heard and read from many people and places about exactly how to handle what I once called my fridge. But I want to know the correct proceedure. Some have said that if you seal it shut and leave it at the curb it will be picked up by garbage men, this I find hard to believe. Others have said to seal it shut, do not attempt to clean it, and bring it to Oakwood and it will be buried there, that can't be true. Then there are those who say to wear protective clothing, mask gloves and what not, scrape out ick into a contaner to transport to a hole in my own yard to bury myself. This sounds more like the proper thing to do, yet it's the one thing I prayed I would not have to do. Could someone PLEASE tell me the correct proceedure for dealing with my fridge when I, if I ever, get home????

Thank you.

I NEED A LIFT PLEASE!

I'm mobilized with the military, my unit continues refusing to let us go back to attend to our properties, so I would really appreciate any help or passing-along of this request!

My brother is willing to look after my post-hurricane property, however he doesn't drive. I can get him as far as any airport within a day or two, if someone here is returning to Algiers and would be willing to give him a ride to my home near the West Bank navy base.

Semper fi!
