Blue Roof update, and some relief info - via Rep. Tucker email distributions

Following is some information regarding assistance and the "blue roof program we received yesterday........

You can go to LB Landry High School (off Whitney) to register with FEMA for the blue roof and they'll put it on for you free of charge. (It was originally broadcasted that they were located at Blaine Kern, but as of today that changed although you can still get other stuff there). You don't have to be home for the blue roof b/c they won't enter your house. They also allow you to register other family members who have roof damage but may still be out town. You must contact them to get their permission and bring their address ... just let FEMA know that it's not your house but a family/friend who is out of town and you have permission to sign for them. There is an entire FEMA center with various stations for insurance, employment, etc. so you can take care of anything FEMA-related at this one location (Can't give you anything more info on the stations b/c I only did the blue roof). I don't think many people know it's there, so there's virtually no wait. Also, there is a Red Cross on-site and that particular RC is giving out cases of cereal and milk, danishes (breakfast - we were there in the morning), water, ice (as many bags as you need), baby supplies (diapers, formula, wipes, etc), and garbage bags.

I don't remember if you had the post office in the other email, but it's open from 10 AM to 3 PM and the line is outrageous, so be prepared to wait and get there at 9:30. K-Mart is also open from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Finally, if anyone is looking for work, my husband was out at some store on yesterday (think it was Home Depot) and they made an announcement that Technical Environmental Services Inc. in Marrero was desperately looking for laborers. He went over and talked to the guy and was hired on the spot. The company is helping JP get the schools ready for the kids' return by emptying refrigerators, etc. He started today and said it hasnt' been bad (didn't smell worse than our house and they give you body suits, masks, etc).
