Captain rescued, sane people happy

Posted on Monday 13 April 2009

Yesterday, the made-for-television drama off the Somali coast came to the most successful conclusion possible.  The heroic Captain Phillips was rescued, unharmed, and the three pirates in the lifeboat with him at the time were killed.

I can’t imagine a better outcome, frankly.

And unless you’re a right wing radio talker or ODS-suffering blogger (OMG what’s wrong with these people???), I bet you see it the same way.

My understanding is that the President authorized the use of deadly force, but left the actual decision on when/how to use it up to the on-scene commander. This is how it should be done, and I for one think the President did the right thing, and did it the right way.

Yup! That’s how I understand it also. I was (am!) very proud of everyone’s role.
