A few days ago, I heard a man who claimed to be John Culberson call in to KSEV AM 700 in Houston, to fulminate about a provision of the recent $700bb bailout bill which he said provided for $400 per mortgage to be funnelled in perpertuity to groups like Acorn, to be used as they see fit, for activities such as voter registration. This caller, who appeared to be accepted by the talk show hosts as THE bona fide John Culberson, said that this provision had already been signed into law.

As far as i can determine, this is incorrect. This proposal was apparently in the first version of the bill, but was not in the version of the bill that was passed. Does anyone else know anything about this?

My staff answered your question properly but without the precision needed. I support PayGo if it means Paid for with spending cuts elsewhere. I oppose Pelosi's PayGo because they always raise spending and then pay for it with tax increases. I oppose PayGo with tax inceases. That is what my staff meant.

Since you're fiscally conservative, at least you have a decent alternative in your congressional district, Enrico.

Culberson is my congressfool. I am voting against all incumbents this round, but i sympathize with anyone who says PAYGO may be a good step in the right direction, but is not enough. We need fundamental reform of the massive hemorrhages in the federal budget.
