The Mountains Call

Posted on Friday 1 August 2008

It’s that time of year again, when the heat here has reached the point that I’m about to melt, and my patience with the Gulf Coast is exhausted.

Time to get away.

It's a long road to Dolly Sods...

I expect to be back the third week of August.

Hopefully by that time John McCain will remember that he’s supposed to be presenting himself as an adult who’s running for high political office rather than throwing petulant temper tantrums all over the place. If he’s still stuck on stupid when I return, though, I’ll just share some pretty pictures from my vacation.

Blackwater Falls

West Virginia never disappoints for photography.

That second picture is GORgeous! I’ll bet there are bears and deer and stinky ‘possums and lots and lots and lots of squirrels and some skunks and raccoons … and, oh yes, snakes, even.

Not so many of those aforementioned critters in this particular location. I’d hiked down an extremely sheer canyon wall, and then scrambled across boulders into the middle of the river for this shot.
