Rather than update yesterday’s post about the strange inability of some folks to differentiate between a campaign site and community blog spaces, I decided this required a separate post. From The Jed Report:
Apparently, LGF forgot to check if there was any objectionable filth on any of their man John McCain’s official campaign forums, and not surprisingly, it turns out there is. In fact, a quick check last night revealed at least one use of the N-word to describe Barack Obama, among other smears.
He has much, much more. Go figure.
Along those lines, I set up space for myself yesterday in John McCain’s community… using nothing more than my email addy. Clearly they’re not vetting either.
Finally — regardless of how absolutely stupid the blow-up was yesterday, it did get the attention of the site moderators over at Obama’s site. My own post on the story was deleted this morning.
Ya know, these “community” spaces could be used to conduct all sorts of mischief against the candidates And the sad thing is, the blogosphere - and even much of the MSM - either wouldn’t (or couldn’t) tell if “it was real, or if it was Memorex”.
I’m thinking that maybe the candidates should stick to running for office, and get out of the social-networking business. After all, one MySpace is

Actually, Ed — I was thinking exactly that when I saw some of the more bizarre stuff out there (on both the Obama and McCain sites). But… golly! How come we’re able to notice this type of idiocy and the hard-core partisans aren’t?

I’ve got to disagree here. Consider the amount Obama has raised online. Consider the actual acquaintances and fund raisers each candidate has had to distance himself from.
Nutpicking is a time honored tradition on the net. But should we let it eliminate what is obviously both a good fund raising as well as energizing tool?
PS: I don’t visit Polimom nearly enough. And she’s right down I-10!
