Grasping at straws in Texas

Posted on Sunday 16 March 2008

The Clinton campaign wants all the caucus signatures verified before the state convention on March 29th — and they want the convention postponed if that can’t happen in time.

In a letter sent to the state Democratic Party late Friday, the Clinton campaign requests the March 29 count and state Senate district conventions be postponed until the eligibility of an estimated 1 million caucus-goers are double checked.

The Clinton campaign wrote they received more than 2,000 complaints of violations following the historic Texas turnout, which was perhaps the nation’s largest caucus ever.

Contrary to what has been reported, Hillary Clinton did not take Texas, but she is perfectly within her rights to demand verification. However, cynical Polimom suspects her goal isn’t merely to delay the inevitable; I think she’s ultimately going to challenge — and attempt to nullify — the legitimacy of the Texas process itself.

Straws (clutching at...)

Good luck with that.

Ok, i have to know, did the idea for the post come first, or did the picture come first? If the former, is it a stock photo, or did you stage it for this purpose?

Nice post, nice photo, and if there were an award for most apropos photo accompanying a post, all the other entrants would be weeking copious tears.

    Hi Enrico, and thanks!

I’ve used only my own photography on this site for a couple of years now. This particular shot was taken about a month ago… but I always knew something called “grasping at straws” (which is what I called it) would be usable on a blog post one day. It was just a matter of having the right post subject.

Ah, thanks Polimom, and I hope everyone knows that I meant to write “weeping,” not “weeking.”
