If Iraq asked us, would we leave?

Posted on Monday 3 March 2008

I can see a point coming soon where Iraqi and American interests will diverge, and so I have a hypothetical question:

If the Iraqi government asked us to leave right now, do you think President Bush would agree to do so?   And/or would John McCain agree a year from now, if asked?

Even if, by either of their definitions, the mission there was not complete?

(I also asked this question at TMV, here.)

If Barack Obama were to be asked this question? Or Hillary Clinton?

I don’t recall seeing either of those names on your post!

No, they’re not there — because both of them have stated that they will begin withdrawing from Iraq if elected.

What people say they will do during the heat of a campaign and what they actually do upon being elected are often, unfortunately, very different things.
