Start in Chihuahua (continental flies there), take the economical train to Creel, spend a couple of days exploring Copper Canyon, then either take the train on to Los Mochis, or back to Chihuahua. The bayous sound interesting - you might be interested in <em> Bayou Farewell </em> by Mike Tidwell to get some ideas of places to visit. Here are a few suggestions:

I find Arizona and Colorado terribly beautiful for scenery, because they're so different from home. Right now, one destination in the USofA would be Dallas - the tulips at the Arboretum should be in bloom shortly. OTOH, if I want "natural scenics", I would head for the closest airport to Grand Teton NP (probably Salt Lake City) - you can also see Yellowstone (in addition to SLC itself.) If you want some socio-documentary photography, then head to the Big Easy - I am certain there is quite a story still to be told there. Or, you could do a driving tour of some of the Civil War battlegrounds - fly to DC/BMI, thne drive to Gettysburg/Antietam/all sorts of places. ~EdT. ~EdT.
