I haven’t a clue what the percentage is, but I’m sure it’s high. (no doubt a Google search would yield the answer, but I’m not that motivated… ) But if the alternative to “pledgable assets” bail is sitting in jail, I gotta agree with you here:

That the ABA doesn't like the current system is indicative of what, exactly? That "...it discriminates against poor and middle-class defendants, does nothing for public safety..." or, that a 10 percent deposit on a bail bond is money that cannot be used as retainer for a criminal defense attorney? Sorry, but it is hard for me to ascribe purely altruistic motives to the ABA.
