It's a tricky beast at certain apertures, and I have to pay attention to what settings I'm using up close -- particularly for birds. With (relatively) still subjects, though, it's great. It has a "macro" setting that I can enable between 200 and 300mm, which allows me to approach within 3 feet or so of the subject.</description>
