Buffalo Bayou winds itself all over this part of the state, and not far from my house, there’s a bridge where cars are always parked. I’ve always wondered what was down there, and what folks were doing — so yesterday, I decided to go find out.
This turns out to have been one of those good / bad ideas.
On the good side, Polimom still has lots to learn about the world — a truly joyous realization, particularly since I’m coming up on yet another birthday.
Honeysuckle, for instance. The nearly overpowering, heady sweetness hanging in the air takes me back decades to lazy summer afternoons, when we would gently pull the stamen through the bottom of the blossom, and lick the drop of sugary nectar. It was delicious!
Turns out, though, that people aren’t the only critters that love this aroma:
I learned, too, that trying to frame and carefully compose pictures is a bit over-rated — at least in my case. This shot, for example, was boring beyond belief at the time:
It turned out, though, to be glorious — and so I went ahead and played with the watercolor filter in Photoshop.
The learning-curve blessing is mixed, though, when it comes to safety glass — which is evidently not-so-safe if you’ve just smashed in a window and you’re in a hurry:
Just at the moment, that’s fine with me.
In fact, I’m kind of hoping whoever this was needed a whole bunch of stitches. He made a real mess out of Polimom’s car.
All in all, a very educational afternoon, yes?
Ugh, those window-smashers are prevalent in my part of Houston, too. I hope he needed lots of stitches.
It would be interesting to check the local hospitals around the time you think the window-smash happened, and see if they had anyone show up in the ER needing stitches (and maybe some blood.)

I thought about that, actually. (calling hospitals) — but then I decided that there are far too many of them around the Houston area. I also figure somebody stupid enough to cut himself on safety glass would probably just put a dirty sock or something around the wound.
Maybe it’ll go septic? Here’s hopin’!

Second photo: the watercolor (and other painting) filters are fun to play with - but except for the large size, it is difficult to tell that it was used. Nice shot, btw - especially the reflections of the trees in the water.
Third photo: EEK! BLOOD! Actually, just think of how much worse it would have been had it not been safety glass. Especially if a sliver had landed on the drivers seat unnoticed by you (until you “got the point”.)

Sorry to hear about your car. I’ve canoed/kayaked Buffalo Bayou since the mid 90’s and have never had a problem leaving my car parked. May I ask where this bridge is?
Glenn — This particular bridge is on Westheimer Pkwy in George Bush park, towards Katy.
I can easily see why you would canoe / kayak it. It’s a perfect waterway for that. Unfortunately for me, I’ve kind of nervous about going down there again. Too bad; there was some great hiking down there — this time of year, anyway. I suspect it would be a bit much in the August heat.
