– Why does society still have a different standard or expectation for teenage boys than girls? Or do they? Given the “rites of passage”, “bragging rights”, and “trophies” that abound in a pubescent boys’ world, I’m having trouble seeing this any other way — and I’m very uncomfortable with it. Then again, I always have been.

I don't know that 'society' still has different standards or expectations of conduct. Certainly, if you listen to 'locker room talk' among a group of boys you might get that idea - but have you listened to similar talk among teenage girls recently? It's almost as 'bad' as an episode of "Sex in the City."

Of course, given that AC is female, and approaching the teenage years, your concern and lack of comfort is completely understandable.

– Should boys and girls have a different age of consent? If not, why not?

I don't think so - certainly the amount of pain that has been spread all over the news concerning the boys who were molested by priests is a good example of why not. Now, I don't think we are talking about 2 teens 'getting it on' here, rather a teen and someone significantly older (e.g. an adult.)

I am just curious, why would anyone think there should be a different age of consent?
