One for the Dems to toss

Posted on Tuesday 10 October 2006

Looks to me like another person who has no business in politics… or around kids:

Some Florida Democrats call Kevin King a rising star amongst the ranks of Democrats, but others, like the head of the Pinellas Democratic Party, Ed Helm, have doubts.

King was arrested in 2001. A judge ordered the St. Petersburg Police Department to seal all records regarding the arrest. King admits that the arrest stems from when he was a substitute teacher. He was arrested for computer solicitation to commit a lewd and lascivious act and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

[snip]

Public records obtained from the Pinellas School District state that it was initially substantiated that he was committing or convicted of a felony. King convinced the school district to change the record to say that it was “misconduct in office where a student was related.”

King resigned his paid position in the Democratic Party after the primaries election to care for his parents. Two weeks ago, however, he was elected a Democratic committee member position in Pinellas. The position concerns Ed Helm. Helm had earlier asked the Florida Democratic Party leadership to relieve him of his duties in Pinellas County, “or terminate him.”

This would seem to be a no-brainer, would it not? Can’t you just see this “rising star” running… say… the page program someday?  The Democrats need to toss this guy overboard. (And what is it with Florida, anyway?)

Of course (as one hyperventilating defender of the Foley madness recently said), those 14- and 15-year-olds were probably just teenaged “beasts” who were merely trying to play a prank on that poor guy… “egging him on” and all that…

*cough cough*

Florida is one of the strangest states in the union. (And I know, my family is in Foley’s district!) Where do you think Carl Hiassen gets all that material for his books?

[…] Unlike Ray Nagin (and perhaps Florida), it appears that the Louisiana Democratic Party understands that it’s time to clean up some problems (Houston Chronicle): BATON ROUGE, LA. — An eight-term Democratic Louisiana congressman whose Capitol Hill office was raided earlier this year as part of a bribery investigation failed Saturday to win the endorsement of the state’s Democratic Party.
