"I hardly think Chavez deserves death, Lazarus, for performing foolishly on the world stage."

No, but he actually did try to overthrow the elected government of Venezuela at one time (while he was a military officer), which might have been justification - at least to the people in Venezuela.

I'm a simple person and have a simple answer:
Put Posada Carriles and Hugo Chavez is a room with two sabers. Explain the one rule, fight to the death. Then shoot the winner.
Told you it was a simple thought, not that it was possible.

Hugo Chavez provides an answer to a question many Americans might have had on their minds...

By now, we’ve all heard about Hugo Chavez’ slanderous remarks toward President Bush at the United Nations today; particularly when he called President Bush “The Devil”. Apparently, President Chavez’ “El Diablo&#8221...

You know, it isn't that big a leap from what we have here (a chief executive who likes to cast political battles as good vs evil) to Chavez's "bush = satan" nuttery.

We have a very awkward relationship with the unpleasant bits of our history in this country. We can't understand why other nations don't get on board with our "terrorism bad!" campaign when we've supported some really horrifying regimes in the not-so-recent history.

I don't know what the answer is. I don't think we should just keep apologizing for past errors for the rest of time, and I think we honestly do much better these days. But our happy blindness to our own history doesn't serve us too well in the international arena.
