Infiltrated Iraqi units

Polimom spent a great deal of yesterday in limbo, unable to bring my thoughts together in a way that makes sense. All of my inner turmoil was rooted in Iraq, and it was this story, in particular, that blew my thoughts to the winds:
TRACY, Calif. — The Pentagon waited nine months after completing an investigation […]

al-Masri - such a manly-man

Evidently Abu Ayyub al-Masri, the new al-Qaeda honcho in Iraq, is feeling a need to assert himself, and he’s started with the abduction, brutal torture, and despicable beheading of two soldiers:
Two US soldiers, missing for three days since their abduction in an insurgent stronghold south of Baghdad, were found dead, a military spokesman said yesterday. […]

N Korea needs to wait in line like everybody else

Mayor Ray Nagin asked the governor Monday to send National Guard troops and state police to patrol his city after a violent weekend in which five teenagers were shot to death.

Conserving water the easy way

Five days ago, the Chronicle’s Katy blog let some of us out here in the hinterlands know that we should be voluntarily rationing our water:
The ill-effects of a dry season are trickling down to some Katy area residents.
A voluntary water conservation order is in effect for residents in Harris/Fort Bend County MUD #1 until further […]

The man in my mirror

At the beginning and end of every day, I face myself; I am unmasked.
The voices of children clamoring for attention are silenced, and the strength of my husband is distant.
I stand in the bright, unforgiving light that underscores the marks of time - those lines that map the road of my life.
I’ve been traveling […]
