Boys will be boys?

Posted on Tuesday 30 May 2006

After the last couple of posts, Polimom felt a real need to lighten up a bit.

Since there have been several stories recently about organized fighting (teens in Arlington, TX, and just lately the techno-geek warrior wannabes), I decided to post about this strange propensity to violence that sometimes manifests in the lucky possessors of the Y-chromosome.

I’m a boy. Soul-searching boy that I am, there’s still something in me that wants to fight. I explored this a bit in a piece I wrote a few years ago: i want to fight a dog. Thought you might find it either illustrative or even more befuddling. Please take it as descriptive, not prescriptive, thought — exploring what is, not what should be.

A dog, eh? Hmmm…… That’s a fun read, thanks for the link. And yup, it simply confirms my base thinking: I just don’t get it. I mean, I hear what you’re saying, it just doesn’t resonate, ya know? (smile…)

If it helps … I don’t get it either. It’s just this strange instinct, a desire to test myself. Motivated by fears of inadequacy, surely. I bet many men can relate to that, at least to some degree.

Thanks for reading my odd little rumination …
