Houston gangs? No way…

Posted on Wednesday 5 April 2006

I hope you’re sitting down, because this news will doubtless come as a shock to some of you. From KHOU:

Houston police believe they have crippled a violent gang they said has committed dozens of crimes.

Police called it another success for the Houston Police Homicide Division Gang Murder Squad, which was developed in January.

The Gang Murder Squad was originally set up to round up a number of suspected gang members from Louisiana.

During their search for the suspects, officers continued to come across violent crimes that had no connection to evacuees.

It turned out some of those criminals were from the Houston area. They were members of a gang called “The 5-9 Bounty Hunters.”

Polimom’s regular readers already knew this, of course, so from where I sit, this is a “Duh”.

I sure am glad it’s making the headlines, though.

I think any story abou the NOLA influx should mention the fact that Houston had a Gang Murder Task Force before Katrina.
